Children and Teenagers

“There are no shortcuts to any place worth going." - Helen Keller

Being a child and teenager in today’s society takes effort and work. Most children and teenagers do not have the experience to help navigate through the turbulent waters.

I believe that in a safe and nonjudgmental environment children and teens can find out who they truly are and accept themselves as a confident loving worthwhile individual. Through the counseling process I provide, teens can gain insight and learn more about ways to have healthy relationships, develop coping skills, set boundaries, and become the best of who they truly are meant to be.

Individual Counseling

“With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts." - Eleanor Roosevelt

Life can be difficult at times and we all may need some help navigating the journey at different points. Whether you feel stuck in your relationships, are recovering from trauma or abuse, suffering from anxiety or depression, or are struggling to manage transitions in your life, I feel my experience and compassion can help.

I enjoy working with clients who are seeking to reclaim their genuine true selves. I strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment as clients seek to transform the "trapped" imprint of the past. My approach is honest and direct, but also, gentle and compassionate. Every person has a story worth telling, and we seek to honor yours as we begin the journey together towards insight and understanding.

My approach to facilitating change, wellness, and personal growth is through the use of humanistic approaches to therapy. This includes the use of Gestalt techniques and Expressive Arts to help the client become more aware of automatic responses and deeper levels of emotion. From time to time I may also encourage “homework” assignments to help you become more aware of behaviors or to practice and master new skills or behaviors, but whether you choose to utilize these assignments is strictly up to you. The professional relationship will be built upon a foundation of trust; as such, we seek to create a safe environment for you to share, discover your most authentic self, and break free from dysfunctional interactional patterns.

Marriage and Couple Counseling

“Success in marriage does not come merely through finding the right mate, but through being the right mate." ~ Barnett Brickner

“A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person." ~Mignon McLaughlin

Couples therapy begins with establishing rapport, hearing and understanding each individual, and devising a treatment plan together to address issues within the relationship, including infidelity. Every couple faces challenges that can threaten the strength of the relationship. Learning to communicate more effectively and developing a deeper emotional awareness of yourself and your partner can help turn periods of difficulty into times of growth. Therapy can be beneficial in developing new strengths, increasing intimacy, deepening connections, and working through the issues that cause difficulty in the relationship.

Premarital Counseling

The decision to get married is an important one. With an estimated 50% of marriages ending in divorce, it is important to take this decision seriously, and do what you can to give your marriage its best chance. Pre-marital counselling examines existing issues that may be present in the relationship, provides education on what factors contribute to successful marriages, and emphasizes skill development related to communication, resolving conflicts, and enhancing intimacy.

Family System Counseling

“The best inheritance a parent can give to his children is a few minutes of their time each day.” M. Grundler

“Everyone needs a house to live in, but a supportive family is what builds a home” Anthony Liccione

Does your family feel disconnected? Do you regularly experience conflict? Do you seem to struggle with communication?

Family therapy is a form of counseling that puts an emphasis on how family members interact with each another. Often times we adjust to roles and communication patterns that have become unhealthy. It is at this point that families need support and assistance in gaining insight and creating healthier behaviors and communication. Family Therapy looks at the family as a whole system, rather than a gathering of individuals. Every family and members have their own form of communication and their own individual way of dealing with life. Family Therapy can help provide insight into the distinctive patterns already established in your family. As your awareness increases, I can help you select to live and communicate differently as a family unit. Therapy can help strengthen the integrity of your family, provide new ways to manage conflict, and increase effective communication.
